[Deer Management] QDMA National Convention Breaks Attendance Records

BOGART, GA. – For the second year in a row, the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee, has helped the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) break attendance records at its annual National Convention. More than 15,000 people attended the Whitetail Expo while an additional 1,200 QDMA members came from all over the country to attend the full National Convention, held July 24-27.

“Every event at the Convention, from seminars to banquets to the Whitetail Expo, broke records for attendance this year,” said QDMA CEO Brian Murphy. “It was a fantastic achievement for QDMA’s 20th anniversary as an organization.”

Murphy attributes the success of this year’s National Convention to several factors, including the line-up of professional speakers, cutting-edge information on QDM, the record number of exhibitors in the Whitetail Expo, and a slate of hunting celebrities who turned out to show their support for QDMA. In addition, tireless efforts of QDMA’s member volunteers and continued growth in new membership helped spur National Convention growth.

From Thursday through Sunday, the seminar hall at the Chattanooga Convention Center remained packed, whether the speaker was a deer researcher or a hunting celebrity. Lee & Tiffany Lakosky of ScentLok’s Getting’ Close attracted plenty of questions about their land and deer management experiences, while visitors heard Bill Jordan’s story of how he founded Realtree Outdoors. The Lakoskys and Jordan were joined by Jordan’s son Tyler, Team Primos, the Hunter’s Specialties pro staff, and Brenda Valentine, for a “meet and greet” session with Whitetail Expo visitors.

“By supporting QDMA, these big names in the hunting industry are helping us attract the attention of hunters who want to learn more about Quality Deer Management, which they were able to do at the Convention,” said Randy Bowden, QDMA’s Marketing Director. “Although we are the fastest-growing conservation organization in the nation, we are maintaining a strong focus on our mission.”

For two years, the City of Chattanooga has provided a great location for growth of the National Convention and an attractive spot for families hoping to combine deer management education with a family get-away. QDMA has found the same attributes in Louisville, Kentucky, which has been selected as the site of the 2009 National Convention. Louisville will enable QDMA to take the National Convention and its educational opportunities to a new region and a location that will be central to most of its membership. The 2009 QDMA National Convention will be held July 23-26 in Louisville, Kentucky.

A friend from Michigan United Deer Hunters www.mudh.com passed away last fall. I thought a good jesture for this fine gentleman would be to plant a tree in his memory. Plus, it is a symbol that will hopefully be remembered for some time, also, benefit wildlife.
I will plant this tree in memory of "Papa Joe" Baker. Papa Joe also belonged to many hunting organizations. Rest In Peace my friend.
